For many of us, racism seems like a thing of the past, like something that ‘used’ to happen. In this week’s show I sit down to talk with a fitness influencer on her experiences with racism and how she is dismantling modern day racism in the health and beauty industry starting in her own home.
There is a common attitude that if it doesn’t happen to me, it’s just not happening–sadly, this was exactly my same mindset until recently. That’s simply not true. With the killing of George Floyd earlier this year we as a nation have seen just how much racism still exists in The Land of The Free.
Mari also opens up about how she is raising the next generation of fierce young girls to love their bodies and their skin no matter the shade or size.

Often we equate an unhealthy lifestyle to bad habits..they are automatic and feel super easy. We don’t have to think about it at all..So why wasn’t don’t we appl this same mindset approach to living a healthy lifestyle?
On the surface, it seems like with living a healthy lifestyle it’s all about discipline, following rules, restriction/ deprivation and diet minded thoughts..
Truthfully, it all comes back to the heart behind the actions, and less about the actions themselves. For example–you could eat the same exact thing with 2 different mindsets, and your outcome will be different.
Over the past couple of years, I have developed some different behaviors and habits around food + exercise…and spoiler alert, they are the same strategies I teach my clients!
However, I truly believe the biggest transformation has come through the mindset.
You can go from stressed out around food to food freedom which aligns with your bigger goals and dreams. And I imagine those dreams don’t include obsessing over food or what you look like.

Achieve your goals without compromising your physical and mental health.
Expose your body to less exercise-induced stress.
Reduce your risk of injury.
Improve consistency, therefore also improving sustainability.
Free up more of your precious time and mental energy.

Often times when we aren’t getting the results from our workouts or our nutrition we think we just need to try a bit harder and workout a little more.
But is the ‘more is better’ approach actually better? In this 2 part series I am helping you navigate the world of fitness to help you create a workout program that supports your goals and your lifestyle.
As always, my goal is to empower you to make the impact in your life you were created to make. And I know that in order to run your race well and finish strong, we have to be fit spiritually, mentally, and physically.
With that said…being ‘fit’ looks a variety of ways. In fact, it’s not even a look, but a feeling. Sure, there are some underlying behaviors that will likely contribute to feeling those things, there is no cookie cutter formula.
